A lobbying group for sweepstakes promotes “Social Plus” terminology for online gaming platforms.

There’s a new, more succinct title for the main lobbying group that promotes online social games with sweepstakes promotions.

A new term for the contentious online games that the Social Gaming Leadership Alliance (SGLA) aims to popularize has been introduced. Sweepstakes casinos are now referred to by the group as “Social Plus.”

“Online social games with sweepstakes promotions” is a mouthful, let’s be honest. Social Plus provides us with a succinct phrase that can effectively characterize online social games with sweepstakes promotions in a way that is clear and simple to distribute. Our main focus is on entertainment and social games. However, the “plus” is more than simply the chance to win prizes; it’s the greater standards of player safety and consumer protection that SGLA partners hold themselves to, according to SGLA managing director Sean Ostrow.

Social Plus refers to social gaming websites and applications that are free to play but also allow you to purchase a supplementary digital currency that can be used to win cash prizes. Digital coins, often known as “sweeps coins,” can be redeemed for money.

Rebranding occurs as losses mount.

The SGLA has been experiencing a losing streak. Google has eliminated online social sweepstakes, or Social Plus, as an acceptable type of social casino gambling advertising. According to Google’s new advertising policy, social casino games are “online simulated gambling-style games where there is no opportunity to win something of value.”

Chumba Casino, Global Poker, VGW, Luckyland Slots, Modo Casino, McLuck, Spin Blitz, Hello Millions, and The Win Zone are among the SGLA’s members that are no longer able to advertise on YouTube or Google Search.

Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) of California signed a bill in October that outlaws all online sweepstakes programs that let participants increase their chances of winning by making a purchase.
