The American Gaming Association estimates that this season, legal sportsbooks will see about $30 billion in wagers on the NFL. There will inevitably be bad actors when that much money is being wagered. IRS-CI encourages U.S. taxpayers to use caution when placing bets and looks into a number of offences related to illicit gambling.
Gambling Is Not Always Legal
Not all wagers are secure. Use state-licensed gaming businesses and platforms that are lawful in your jurisdiction, IRS-CI advises you. Only thirty-nine states and the District of Columbia allow sports betting, according to the American Gaming Association.
