Both football and sports betting have returned. The NFL is the most popular league for oddsmakers in the United States, where betting is very prevalent. The American Gaming Association estimates that this season, legal sportsbooks will see about $30 billion in wagers on the NFL. Including only legitimate wagers placed at conventional sportsbooks in the United States, that is an 8.5% increase over the previous year.

There will inevitably be bad actors when that much money is being wagered. IRS-CI encourages U.S. taxpayers to use caution when placing bets and looks into a number of offences related to illicit gambling.
Gambling Is Not Always Legal
Not all wagers are secure. Use state-licensed gaming businesses and platforms that are lawful in your jurisdiction, IRS-CI advises you. Only thirty-nine states and the District of Columbia allow sports betting, according to the American Gaming Association.
