Attorney General of Minnesota Demands Illegal Gaming Websites Cease Operations in the State

Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison has made his position on sweepstakes casinos’ role in his state very clear, even as their popularity continues to soar despite legal hurdles.

Ellison said in a statement on Wednesday that 14 operators of illicit gambling websites, including online casinos and sweepstakes sites, had received a letter requesting that they stop operating in the state.

“Let me be clear: online gambling is not safe and legal in Minnesota,” Ellison stated. “Online platforms offering sportsbooks and casino games run by out-of-state and overseas operators may make it look like that.” “The fact that these online gambling operations are illegal is unaffected by attempts to rebrand poker chips as virtual currencies.”

Ellison expressed concerns that the operators were violating state consumer-protection laws, with the use of virtual coins substituting for chips prohibited under Minnesota laws.

The sites that were addressed were VG LuckyLand, Zula Casino, Fortune Coins, BetAnySports, BetUs, XBet, BetNow, BetWhale, EveryGame Sportsbook, BetOnline, Slotsandcasino, Bovada, MyBookie.com, and Sportsbetting.com.
