Connecticut Governor Ned Lamont has formally banned online sweepstakes casino providers, making it the second US market to do so.
The prohibition, Senate Bill 1235, was passed unanimously by both houses of the Connecticut legislature, 146-0 in the Senate and 36-0 in the House. Lamont issued the prohibition on sweepstakes casinos last week.
Last month, Montana Gov. Greg Gianforte became the first governor to sign such a law. Last Thursday, Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry vetoed a law passed by the state legislature.

Connecticut Sweepstakes Casino Ban
SB 1235 outlaws the operation and advertising of sweepstakes casinos and promotional devices. It also bans “simulated” internet casinos and sports betting.
The measure makes illicit gambling a Class D felony. Violation of the felony entails a $5,000 fine and up to five years in jail.
The law makes an exemption for supermarket companies that offer contests with shop discounts as rewards.
Sweepstakes Casino Group disappointed
A group representing several sweepstakes operators has expressed concern with the amount of probation legislation being passed in the United States.
The Social and Promotional Games Association “is frustrated” with Lamont’s signing of SB 1235.
