Detroit Casinos See Mixed Results in April: Mgm Grand Leads While Sports Betting Slumps

Revenue trends for Detroit’s three main casinos were mixed in April 2025, with $109.8 million earned. The market leader was MGM Grand, with minor changes observed in MotorCity and Hollywood Greektown amidst monthly and annual fluctuations.

In April 2025, Detroit’s gambling mainstays had a mixed bag of outcomes despite the glamour and lights of the casino floors. The three main casinos in the city made a total of $109.8 million, according to a report from the Michigan Gaming Control Board. When broken down, table games and slots accounted for the majority of income at MGM Grand Detroit, MotorCity Casino, and Hollywood Casino at Greektown, with a small amount coming from retail sports betting.

The April revenue distribution among the casinos demonstrated MGM Grand Detroit’s ongoing supremacy with 47% of the market. Not far behind, Hollywood Casino at Greektown took home 23% while MotorCity Casino took home 30%. Considering the month’s performance in comparison to the revenue highs and lows of the previous year makes the data seem even more pertinent. Despite a modest 1.5% annual rise, it should be noted that overall income from table games and slots did decline by 6.3% from March 2025.

A closer look at the revenue stream reveals that MGM Grand Detroit had a 2.5% increase, or $51.1 million, which, in spite of everything, represents a modest but encouraging gain. On the other hand, Hollywood Casino in Greektown had a 0.2% decline in profits, which came to $25.3 million. With a little rise, MotorCity Casino came in last with $33.1 million in revenue for the same time period, a 1.2% gain. In April, the casinos paid $13.0 million to the City of Detroit and $8.9 million to the state in taxes and development agreement payments, fulfilling their share of the gaming tax burden.
