Five Premier League Teams Are in Uncertainty as Betting Brands Depart

TGP Europe departed the UK market due to regulatory irregularities, resulting in sponsorship concerns for several Premier League teams. The UK Gambling Commission has stated that the move interrupts gambling transactions.

Several Premier League clubs face sponsorship uncertainty as TGP Europe, which powers multiple UK-licensed gambling operators through its white label service, has left the market following regulatory action.

TGP Europe surrendered its licence after being fined £3.3m for failing to properly vet business partners and breaching anti-money laundering rules. The UK Gambling Commisson demanded significant improvements for the company to continue operating in Great Britain, but TGP chose to exit the market instead.

News first circled after it was found several TGP-hosted websites went offline or displayed maintenance messages, raising questions about the company’s future, as reported by iGaming Expert.

Newcastle United (Sportsbetio.uk), Fulham (SBOTOP), Leicester City (BCGame), AFC Bournemouth (bj88), and Wolverhampton Wanderers (DEBET) are among the Premier League clubs with impacted sponsorships.

Hull City, a Championship team, and Burnley, a Premier League club on the verge of promotion, are also impacted by their contracts with Sportsbet.io and 96.com.

On May 15, the Gambling Commission issued a statement saying, “The Commission yesterday contacted AFC Bournemouth, Fulham FC, Newcastle United FC, Wolverhampton Wanderers FC, and Burnley FC, warning of the risks of promoting unlicensed gambling websites.”

Who is TGP Europe?

TGP Europe has quietly emerged as one of the most influential players driving Premier League gambling sponsorships in recent years.

Aside from the current agreements under review, TGP Europe has previously worked with Kaiyun Sports, a gambling company that sponsors Nottingham Forest, Crystal Palace, and Aston Villa.

However, Kaiyun stopped functioning under the TGP umbrella in July 2024. That development sparked more worries, with the UK Gambling Commission (UKGC) apparently advising teams to reassess their sponsoring strategy.
