Governor of Ohio: MLB and bookmakers are nearing an agreement to outlaw “prop bets.”

Microprop bets, also known as prop bets, are bets on athletes’ one-time actions during a game that settle as soon as a play is over. Governor Mike DeWine has been fighting to outlaw these bets. DeWine, who owns a minor league baseball team and has long been worried about gambling, has refrained from calling for state action on those wagers for the time being.

When the Cincinnati Reds and Atlanta Braves played at the MLB Speedway Classic in Bristol, Tennessee, in August, DeWine claimed he had a conversation with Major League Baseball commissioner Rob Manford. According to DeWine, Manford concurs with him that large-scale microprop bets are not a good idea. Additionally, he stated that the MLB and sports gambling companies are nearing an agreement to prevent them.

“Every sports gaming company appears to have an arrangement with them, with the exception of one. In an interview, DeWine stated, “And they think they’ll get that agreement after the World Series basically to limit micro prop bets over $100, basically to exclude anything over $100.” “We’ve examined the figures here as well as the areas where issues have arisen. Additionally, the issues are obviously bets beyond $100.

Last year, DeWine banned prop bets on collegiate athletes. In July, he demanded action following the suspension of two Cleveland Guardians pitchers due to a gambling probe. He claimed that other major league sports are now paying attention as well, particularly in light of the arrests of an NBA player, former player, current coach, and others in relation to a suspected long-running illegal gambling conspiracy.

“The NBA ought to be really worried. “Soccer should be extremely concerned,” DeWine stated. “We were contacted by the NFL. Thus, we are also beginning to discuss this with the NFL.
