Final Day battle between India vs. England at Edgbaston
India has set a new target of 608 runs for England, driven by Shubman Gill’s historic 430-run haul in the match. For them to avoid losing on the last day, England needs to overcome the odds on a challenging pitch and in overcast conditions with seven wickets remaining.
BIRMINGHAM – JULY 6, 2025
England has been forced to chase a mammoth score of 608 runs set up by India, in which Shubman Gill scored a pair of centuries (269 and 161). England is behind with 536 on the last day of the day (72/3). With initial wickets falling, South India is being floated as the team to look out for, as the Test has a whiff of a dramatic ending to it.

After winningthe toss, India struck first and benefited on a true Edgbaston track. Gill also made a captain’s knock and seized command of the innings when, due to the small slip, the team was facing 211-5. A misplaced romance with Jadeja (41 Not Out) came along later, aiding India to finish at a better score.
On the second day of the Edgbaston Test, India added another 277, where Shubman Gill turned his 113 overnight score into his career-best 200. The reaction of England was lacklustre; three wickets were received by England till the end of the daytime, by Akash Deep and Mohammed Siraj.
Gill had also scored a breathtaking 100 runs in his second innings to guarantee him a match aggregate of 430 runs, which is still the second highest in Test history. Pant included rapid boundaries, and India declared a world-record total of 608 runs against England.
Once again the response to England was inadequate. Crawley was bowled out without him scoring, and Root was bowled out on only 11. By taking such an ambitious approach, the radical solution, dubbed Bazball, has not produced the consistency necessary to handle that kind of ambition.

Shubman Gill has cemented himself into history. He has single-handedly made most of the runs (430, second only in history in a Test) and has set up the platform through which India will manage to draw the series. His evolution from a wild child to a professional manager is a fairy tale.
England, with all their slogan of being fearless, has now been presented with the crucible. Seven wickets left to play and 536 runs to make, it is not only aggression but plain resilience. Root and Brook are the children that England has to write a miracle for.
The bowlers smell blood, though. Looking forward to cloudy skies in the morning and the pitch already exhibiting signs of its unevenness, the bowling unit, spearheaded by Siraj and Akash Deep, would immediately look forward to sealing the game off.

India Win | 60% |
England Win | 25% |

There will be fireworks, tense moments and maybe some twist or two. Yet so long as England does not bat out of their skins, India is well on the way to squaring the series at 1-1 and quite possibly establishing a classic for the remaining part of this already not-to-be-forgotten summer.
