Nevada authorities caution license holders about playing video games online.

Late on Friday, the Nevada Gaming Control Board provided Nevada licensees with further policy guidelines on the provision of online gaming outside of the state, highlighting countries that are forbidden.

Board Chair Mike Dreitzer’s five-page memo emphasized the rise in betting activities in online casinos and other online gaming platforms, all of which depend on operating systems, software, and/or other content intended for online play.

Due to this growth, the Board has concluded that all licensees, as well as applicants who presently operate in or wish to pursue possibilities in online gaming in jurisdictions outside of Nevada, require further policy direction.

“The overall goal of this guidance is to reduce potential adverse consequences for licensees and applicants under the Board’s foreign-gaming requirements and in particular (Nevada state law),” Dreitzer said.

In recent years, those involved in online gaming have faced increasing complexity in determining which jurisdictions are legal and illegal or prohibited, Dreitzer said.

This situation is further complicated by other factors, such as whether the online gaming products are offered from within or from outside the jurisdiction and the variety of igaming approaches available.
