Officials in Iowa warn of an increase in internet gambling scams.

The Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission cautions residents about fraudulent gambling sites posing as licensed operators. These platforms exploit social media and bonuses to lure players but lack consumer protections, putting bettors at risk. Stick to regulated operators for safe play.

Iowans are being alerted by the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission (IRGC) about the rise in fraudulent internet gambling sites that impersonate authorized Iowa-licensed operators.

To entice unwary players, these dishonest platforms frequently imitate official logos and advertise on social media with alluring bonuses.

Interest in sports betting has surged since the football season began.

Tina Eick, the administrator of the IRGC, highlights that regulated websites need to adhere to tight compliance guidelines, play responsibly, and impose age limits. She warns that illicit operators circumvent these protections, putting customers at grave risk.

In Iowa, it is permissible to wager on sports online, but only through registered and regulated businesses. Be wary of casino-style offers or requests for cryptocurrencies or credit cards, as these are probably frauds.
