As the Empire State once again upped the bar for monthly wagering in the US, the New York Gaming Commission disclosed on Thursday a record $2.64 billion mobile sports betting handle for October.
Although the NYSGC has not yet disclosed retail sports betting statistics from its four commercial sportsbooks, the mobile handle significantly surpassed the previous record of $2.49 billion set in January. The eight mobile novels have surpassed $2 billion in sales for the third consecutive month and the fourteenth time in total.
Mobile betting increased 13.9% over the previous year, with transactions exceeding $650 million for the weeks ending October 26 and November 2. The top 10 all-time weekly ranking also included the weeks ending October 5 ($591.7 million) and October 19 ($564.3 million).
Operator revenue from the 9%-plus hold was $238.7 million. Given that the collective operator win rate was 1.4 percentage points higher than in October 2024, that represented a 35.4% increase.
Due to the strong performance, mobile operator winnings since debut in January 2022 have reached over $7.1 billion, and year-to-date revenue has over $2 billion, less than $36 million short of the 2024 full-year total.
The state received $121.8 million in tax revenue from the third-largest monthly revenue collection for mobile books. With two months left, the almost $1.05 billion inflow into coffers in 2025 has already surpassed 2024 by $5.5 million, setting a full-year record.
FanDuel, the market leader in the Empire State among the eight mobile bookmakers, bolstered to its already impressive New York resume by becoming the first operator to reach $1 billion in monthly handle.
The behemoth cleared the benchmark by a scant $5.9 million, surpassing its previous high of $965.1 million in January. FanDuel’s handle market share increased significantly from September, rising from 34.5% to 38.1%. Despite a 10.8% year-over-year rise in wagering, its market share in October 2024 fell one full percentage point.
FanDuel also had a strong month, with a 10% hold resulting in $100.6 million in revenue. That was a 30.1% rise over last year, and it broke the nine-figure revenue mark for the third time this year and the fourth time altogether – all in the last 12 months.
