Phai Files a Pennsylvania Lawsuit Against Caesars for “Deceptive” Bonus Promotion

Caesars Online Casino and Harrah’s Philadelphia are being sued by the Public Health Advocacy Institute for allegedly advertising a “deceptive and dangerous” US$2,500 deposit match offer.

Customers must wager and risk at least US$375,000 within seven days in addition to the deposit in order to earn any reward.

According to the lawsuit, which was submitted to the Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas, the incentive violates state law by linking bonus payouts to an impossible wagering barrier and is deceptive and predatory.

The Public Health Advocacy Institute claims that the offer’s fine print deceives participants into excessive gambling, endangering their financial and emotional well-being.

Mark Gottlieb, executive director of the Public Health Advocacy Institute, described the advertising as one of the worst gaming promotions he had ever seen.

It’s an obvious illustration of how the gaming business is pushing boundaries without sufficient regulation. Under typical play conditions, it is difficult to finish this promotion. It’s intended to make players fail, which is dishonest and harmful,” Gottlieb stated.

The legal team at PHAI declared that their goal was to shield the general public from damaging business practices. This comes after the Massachusetts Gaming Commission and sports betting company DraftKings were sued in 2023 and 2024.

Well Played Media, the operator of Casino Days, was fined CA$54,000 (US$39,200) by the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario earlier this month for presenting a false welcome incentive that encouraged high-risk behaviour.
