Sports Wagering is Expected to Launch in Missouri on December 1

Missouri’s long-awaited sports betting market will officially launch on December 1, 2025. With licensing open and interim permits to be granted, casinos and pro teams are preparing to enter the $169M+ gaming space.

The Missouri Gaming Commission (MGC) has declared on its website that it will formally launch the state’s sports wagering market on December 1, 2025, and is already actively collecting licensing applications from industry partners.

As indicated by the commission, the recently enacted sports wagering law will take effect on August 30, giving an interim period during which applications for the Missouri state sports betting market can be officially considered. Following this, the regulator has the right to issue interim licences prior to the market’s launch in December.

Retail sports betting licences will cost $250,000, while internet licences will cost $500,000. Any of Missouri’s 13 retail casino sites, as well as the six professional sports teams that are presently operating in the state, can now apply for a license. Furthermore, two extra licenses will be awarded that are not earmarked for any particular organization inside or outside of the state.

The MGC will formally announce the recipients of these two licenses on August 15, and the commission has confirmed that the sports betting tax rate would be 10%.

Contextually, Missouri’s regulated casino business produced revenue of $169.1 million in April 2025, up 9% year on year.

Indeed, this regulatory move in the Missouri state market has been planned for some time, with lawmakers reopening the subject in 2022.

More recently, in November, voters narrowly authorized the practice for regulation, with more delays occurring in February following the Missouri Secretary of State’s office’s rejection of emergency licencing requirements.
