Campbell Hatton steps out of the ring after back-to-back defeats and personal struggles

Campbell Hatton, son of British boxing legend Ricky Hatton, has retired from professional boxing at the age of 24. Despite a promising start to his career, Campbell chose to step away from the sport after recent defeats and a series of emotional setbacks that left him questioning his future in the ring.

Campbell Hatton: From fast start to faltering form

Campbell launched his pro career with 12 straight wins and was tipped as a rising star. With big backing—part of the same management group as Anthony Joshua—he looked set for success. But two consecutive losses to James Flint derailed that momentum, and with each bout, the pressure seemed to grow.

Turning Point for campbell Hatton

The turning point came when Campbell fought for the Area title and lost. His father, Ricky Hatton, admitted the decision was fair. Though Campbell rematched Flint and arguably edged the second bout, the fire was already fading. “They were both close fights, but he started to lose his mojo,” Ricky told Boxing Now.

Campbell affected by sudden death of his best friend

What fans didn’t see was the toll personal tragedy took on Campbell. The sudden death of one of his best friends, Justin, hit hard. Ricky revealed, “He went through a bit, and even though he was still in the gym, his heart wasn’t in it anymore.”

The father’s advice: walk away proud

Ricky Hatton, who became Campbell’s trainer earlier this year, offered honest advice only a father and fighter could give. “I said, ‘Son, you’ve given it a proper go. You should be proud. But you can’t play boxing. If the hunger’s gone, step away.’”

What’s next?

Campbell took the advice and decided to retire for good. He’s now working in solar panel installation—far from the noise of arenas, but in a role that gives him fresh purpose. Ricky confirmed: “No, Campbell won’t fight again. He’s doing solar panels now—and he’s happy.”
